Big Hill

The vines of Big Hill are easily spotted by the side of the road with the cellar door and function room perched on the side of the hill. The friendly fella who took us through our tasting had never done one before. He grabbed some bottles of wine, some with barely any wine left in the bottle, which had probably been opened from last weekend as those wines were truly oxidised.
To be honest the whole experience was disappointing and a waste of time.
The Friday we visited felt like they were closed though their website promotes them as being open. I hear later that Big Hill is known more for being a function venue. No sensible person would deny a winery the opportunity to help the bottom line by catering for some large events, but if you promote yourself as having a cellar door and function facilities then you need to do both and both well. Big Hill needs to either forget about the cellar door side of the business and focus solely on the functions or lift its game and make the wine tasting experience memorable for all the right reasons.
